Summer 2016 will mark the third year of the SST Certification Program. The precision farming training program fuses together the unique aspects of technical training and research-driven agronomic philosophies.
SST’s approach to the Certification Program has created a unique, holistic precision ag curriculum that encompasses core competencies in the areas of data collection, analysis reports and applied decisions. The SST Certification Program emphasizes the intrinsic value of collecting geospatial data and teaches individuals how to use the data for optimizing in-field inputs while maximizing outputs. These core competencies ultimately lead to effective, real-world applied decisions using spatial information reports. The knowledge and technical expertise gained from the program allows students to become career-ready for the precision ag field.
Andrew Jones, Business Analyst for the agX Platform, is a graduate of the 2015 SST Certification Program. “I recently transitioned out of the Air Force, and I was used to rigid training programs,” Jones says. “I was impressed with how dynamic and flexible SST’s Certification Program was structured. It was tailored to teach exactly what we needed as students. From detailed, hands-on field work to the future of the industry, the program was a great opportunity to open the doors of the precision ag world.”
Timely execution plays an important role in precision ag. With this in mind, the SST Certification Program integrates the core competencies into the following key areas: data management, service provider offerings, emerging product and aggregate analysis. These key areas provide scalable insight to students so they will have the knowledge to craft and sustain a program across multiple sites and geographic regions utilizing a variety of products.
“This program offers young ag leaders the ability to become proficient in a variety of difficult skill sets,” says Bill Richardson, SST Software Director of Training and Education. “The goal is to complement the student’s educational background with hands-on experience of real-world applications utilizing the latest technologies within agriculture.”
The SST Certification Program is a paid internship open to postsecondary education juniors who are involved in the study of agriculture, and looking to have a career in the precision agriculture industry. Richardson takes the program a step further by helping graduates find jobs in the precision ag industry.
The program is 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, June 1-July 29, 2016, at SST Software headquarters. Interested students may send a résumé or questions to Bill Richardson at 888-377-5331 or [email protected].
