Raven Buys Minority Stake In SST

Following up on the companies’ successful strategic alliance started in July of this year, Raven Industries has taken a more substantial step forward by acquiring a minority ownership position of software manufacturer SST. Terms were not disclosed.

The deal serves to deepen the two companies’ commitment to their recently announced strategic alliance designed to facilitate the integration of SST’s AgX Platform into Raven’s Viper Pro and Envizio Pro field computers, says Paul Welbig, marketing specialist with Raven. Both companies historically have been focused on bringing technology to the precision service provider, which makes this more substantial commitment to working together make a lot of sense for both organizations.

“Raven is a partner that agrees with our mission — providing independent information management services to out ag service providers and their farmer-customers, as they manage field inputs for maximum efficiency,” noted David Waits, SST president and CEO. “Raven’s robust hardware offerings and ag business perspective will help ups achieve that goal.”
The outcome will be faster and more efficient integration of SST’s AgX Platform, a standardized data structure and reference database, within Raven equipment. Fully implemented, AgX enables efficient in-field record keeping and cleaner communication between AgX compliant software and devices.

“SST’s software suite and database structure has proven itself in the marketplace and our approaches to the precision agriculture market complement and build on each other,” said Raven president and CEO Ronald Moquist. “The use of Raven high-speed modems and our field computers will help provide a real-time link to SST’s powerful algorithms. We anticipate that the integration of the AgX platform will add to both company’s revenues.”
