GeoVantage Winging Into The Season Ahead

GeoVantage started out serving the forestry industry with imagery, and currently also serves the urban planning and environmental management markets in addition to agriculture. It took some time to get the agriculture division refocused, but the company is ready to go, says Nick Morrow, marketing manager.

One of the benefits of Deere’s involvement in the division is the development of the imagery capturing technology. The aerial imagery technology combines a global positioning navigation system (GPS) and inertial measurement unit (IMU) technology in state-of-the-art 4-band digital sensors to capture both natural color and Near Infrared (NIR) images. The images are Geographical Information System (GIS) ready, geo-registered, and extremely high resolution.

GeoVantage has some 80 camera units that can be shipped anywhere, and are easily fixed to aircraft. All imagery is captured and delivered digitally, so turnaround time is quick and cost effective.

The focus of GeoVantage is in providing imagery products and not value added services, notes Morrow. “The application of value added services ends up being unique to geographic areas,” he says. “We see our role as plugging imagery into a system that the consultant or retailer, our customer, has developed for growers rather than us building a system. One size does not fit all.”
