We’ve long held that profitability from optimizing inputs was the key reason we’re seeing more precision ag tools being adopted, but Dr. Tracy Blackmer, of the On-Farm Network and Iowa Soybean Association says that he’s seeing an up-tick in concerns about regulatory pressure.

“I think more farmers are concerned about keeping their license to farm,” he shared in between sessions at our PrecisionAg WORKS learning center on the trade show floor.

A record-number of corn, bean, wheat and sorghum farmers and spouses attended the Commodity Classic this year. More than 2,500 this year in Tampa, FL by the official count.

Our friend George Huber of Trimble had a chance to share a precision technology view with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack when the Secretary stopped by the Trimble display during his visit to the conference.

One more brief meeting note: Farmers considering guidance systems would do well to understand those beloved mates of theirs that they put behind the wheel of the spray rig. In two conversations I had with grower couples at recent meetings, the wife was the one who sang the praises of guidance control most clearly. Seems that it was a little glimpse of “heaven” on the spray rig for those who’ve been toiling for years without it. Wow, another REALLY great reason to adopt precision technology…!
