Harvest
Handled correctly, harvest time can mean more than harvesting the crop and cashing the checks. It can also mean harvesting valuable yield data that can aid you in making better decisions for the following season.
Harvest is when a precision program can provide the biggest potential payback, but only if you use a yield monitor that is fully geo-referenced to a particular field.
Yield data, captured in a geographic information system (GIS) provides you with a scorecard for you to use in evaluating all of the decisions you made and the effect of the variables you encountered in the course of the season. This is why gathering accurate yield data, even in the heat of harvest, should be a priority.
