Ask experienced growers who’ve been using precision tools for years and you still may hear them say, "I'm still a real novice at this." Perhaps it was Ben Franklin that said "we're all ignorant, just on different subjects."

For some, precision ag is a comprehensive crop production system based on steering data into a decision support system that enables a grower to make smarter choices season by season. Others are more focused on the individual tools of precision and their utility.

For our purposes here, we are defining a Novice user as someone using any or all of the following tools:

• A lightbar or visual guidance to operate equipment.
• A yield monitor and use it, but not with a global positioning system.
• A global positioning system for something in your operation.
