Scuse To Deliver Keynote at InfoAg 2011

Michael T. Scuse, USDA’s Deputy Under Secretary for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services (FFAS), will be the keynote speaker during the opening plenary session on Wednesday, July 12 at the 2011 InfoAg Conference.

Scuse will be discussing the potential consolidation of information currently required to participate in farm programs administered by the Farm Service Agency, and the Federal Crop Insurance Program administered by the Risk Management Agency. FFAS is interested in receiving input from agriculture on how best to simplify and standardize, to the extent practical, acreage reporting processes, program dates, and data definitions across the various USDA programs and agencies.

It is hoped that process changes will create program data that is common across agencies to be collected once and utilized or redistributed to agency programs in producers choose to participate. It also may provide a single Web site for producers to report commodity information if they so choose, or access their previously reported information.

Scuse was appointed to the position by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in April, 2009 His primary responsibility is serving domestic programs within the FFAS mission area. He served as Secretary of Agriculture for Delaware from May 2001 until September 2008, when Governor Ruth Ann Minner (D) named him as her chief of staff. From 1996 to 2001, Scuse served as both chairman of the Kent County (Delaware) Regional Planning Commission and chairman of USDA’s FSA State Committee. Before that, he was Kent County Recorder of Deeds.
