John Deere Boosts Connectivity, Customer Service With Technology Additions

John Deere’s Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) has announced the availability of some new tools and capabilities it will be offering farmers.

To help agricultural producers manage their equipment information, production data and farm operations from a single website, John Deere introduces MyJohnDeere.com. Developed as part of the John Deere FarmSight strategy, the MyJohnDeere toolbox gives customers a centralized online portal to access, view, archive and manage a wide variety of business information.

Nathan Greuel, product manager, John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group, says users can log into MyJohnDeere.com and access key applications such as JDLink which allows them to view real-time information about their farm operations, field locations and important performance data from their equipment. Other applications include AgLogic, JDParts, John Deere Financial, Stellar Support and My Equipment.

“This will be a new suite of technology to help producers plan, run and analyze their operations through the entire farming cycle,” Greuel says. “The user can access their MyJohnDeere site to view the information that is most important to them, as well as allow access to their dealer, farm manager or other third-party individuals.”

The MyJohnDeere portal is accessible via computer, smartphone or other handheld mobile device.

“Many of the new solutions and technologies that are being developed under the John Deere FarmSight strategy will be accessed from this centralized and convenient website – MyJohnDeere.com,” Greuel adds. “The site will integrate technology solutions, financial services, parts and service sourcing and other information producers need in order to make sound management decisions and increase the productivity of their farming operations.”

Remote Display Access: Giving Equipment Dealers More Power To Service

As farmers integrate more precision technology into their equipment and operations, the ability to remotely supervise and support those field operations becomes even more important to both farmers and dealers. To provide that support, John Deere introduces Remote Display Access, which allows users to view the operator’s display screen on their John Deere equipment.

By using an Internet-connected device, users with Remote Display Access can view the operator’s GreenStar 3 2630 Display screen, which helps them to identify any problems, assist the operator in navigating the steps needed to resolve an issue or ensure correct settings and machine operation. According to Dave Mulder, product manager, John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group, as part of the growing suite of JDLink telematic products, Remote Display Access improves communication and offers faster resolution of problems to increase equipment uptime and operational performance in the field.

“The major benefit of Remote Display Access is the ability to give farm owners, managers, and equipment dealers the ability to remotely view the display screen to see exactly what the operator sees in the cab to ensure that the equipment is operating correctly, provide training or to trouble shoot issues,” Mulder says. “Having remote access to this real-time information saves unnecessary trips to the field; improves service from dealers; and increases the productivity of the equipment and field operations.”

To operate Remote Display Access requires the GreenStar 3 2630 Display; JDLink Modular Telematics Gateway (MTG) hardware with the latest updates; JDLink subscription with Remote Display Access; and an ethernet cable to connect the display to the MTG.

“Remote Display Access is very simple to use,” Mulder adds. “From a remote computer, tablet or smartphone, users can log in to JDLink.com or MyJohnDeere.com and navigate to the Remote Display Access link that connects to the display in the cab of the equipment they select. The actual live operator’s view of the display data is sent via wireless cellular data connection from the MTG to the John Deere communications network, which the remote user can access from their device.”

In addition, displays from multiple machines can be viewed at the same time, and multiple remote users can view the same operator’s display if a remote desktop sharing program is used. Remote Display Access is compatible with most web browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0, Google Chrome and Apple Safari 5.0.

StarFire Enhancements: More Accuracy

To give producers increased accuracy in precision-guided field operations, John Deere announces enhancements to its StarFire 3000 Receivers. According to Holli Brokaw, product manager with the John Deere ISG, the enhancements give SF1 subscribers 9-inch pass-to-pass accuracy 95% of the time and SF2 subscribers can achieve 2-inch accuracy 95% of the time with the StarFire 3000 Receiver.

“We made some changes to the StarFire system software and now use GLONASS satellites on machine receivers and network reference stations,” Brokaw explains. “Field tests show our SF1 and SF2 customers using these receivers will see improved accuracy in the field.”

Brokaw notes that the changes to the StarFire 3000 Receivers do not impact those customers using StarFire iTC Receivers or those using RTK. “For producers requiring the highest level of precision, RTK provides the most precise, 1-inch repeatable accuracy,” she says. “But for many customers with StarFire 3000 Receivers and SF2 subscriptions, these signal correction enhancements get them better accuracy.”
