Ag Leader’s SeedCommand Now Features Planter Monitoring

SeedCommand now tracks and logs average seed population while monitoring seed spacing, and provides this information in real time to operators in the form of a color bar graph and population display. These capabilities allow growers using SeedCommand to monitor and control planting functions from the InSight display, eliminating the need for a planter monitor.

“Since its introduction, growers have used SeedCommand for the AutoSwath feature, which automatically turns planter sections on and off based on field maps and already planted areas,” says Roger Zielke, New Business Development Manager. “Spots that use to be double-planted, like point rows, headlands, and between terraces, are now spots where seed is saved and yield loss is prevented.”

For the 2008 growing season, planter monitoring functionality is available to replace KINZE KPM I, II or III planter monitors. In addition, SeedCommand monitors auxiliary planter functions on KINZE planters including:

• Vacuum level on EdgeVac planters.
• Bulk seed delivery on SDS planters.
• Row unit down force on pneumatic down force planters.
• Transmission shaft speed on all supported KINZE planters.

The system also allows growers to map hybrid/variety locations and record split-planter operations for better record keeping and decision making. Variable rate planting can also be done with SeedCommand through a serial connection to controllers from Rawson Control Systems.
