West Coast Imagery Company Expanding To Midwest

FalconScan, an aerial imagery company, is expanding from its home base in California to provide service to customers in the Midwest for the 2010 season.

“FalconScan combines state-of-the-art remote sensing science and commercial-off-the-shelf technology to rapidly deliver high resolution ortho photos, NDVIs and field maps to help growers efficiently manage crops, reduce inputs and save money,” says Alex Howerton, FalconScan general manager.

Georeferenced imagery is collected using sensors mounted on aircraft. The sensor collects and stores imagery, which is sent electronically to FalconScan for processing, and then onto the customer via the Internet.

The company has been working with specialty crops for a number of years inCalifornia, including nut and vine crops and high-value fruits and vegetables. It has done work on corn and rice as well, and is planning a major expansion into commodity crop territory this year. The company is seeking both customers and precision service providers to act as partners.
