CropMetrics, DTN Announce Collaboration On Weather, Irrigation Data

CropMetrics and DTN/The Progressive Farmer announced a collaboration that will bring instant weather and irrigation scheduling information to growers. Providing the expertise and innovation from each company, the new collaboration will enable growers with real-time, site specific weather and crop modeling information dedicated to helping improve grower’s irrigation management decisions.

The new program will be delivered through the CropMetrics Virtual Optimizer (VO) platform. This advanced irrigation scheduling service was tested successfully in 2014, and is now available for customers to enroll online. The new service capitalizes on the award, winning accuracy of DTN/The Progressive Farmer weather data to enhance individual field’s crop and irrigation modeling. Virtual Optimizer was specifically developed to harness multiple irrigation technologies into one simplified platform that allows the grower to maximize irrigation efficiency and improve profit. For the first time, VO integrates weather, soil moisture probes, irrigation applications, and crop modeling data to provide real time irrigation recommendations. The program is available for a variety of row crops and can be customized in-season for real-time changing conditions and scenarios.

CropMetrics customers will be able to opt into an exclusive network of Ag Weather Stations, including those positioned on growers’ farms, which provide accurate, real-time site-specific information as well as environmental conditions in other regions. Data will seamlessly inform growers about forecasts and CropMetrics irrigation recommendations to help them make more informed management decisions for their farming operation. In addition, customers will have the ability to add Variable Rate Irrigation to their fields coming in April 2015. VO provides the grower flexibility to utilize as many or as few of the technology pieces that fit their operation. The more tools that are added, the more precise the irrigation schedules become.

“CropMetrics understands the challenges growers face with making irrigation decisions, and although there are many beneficial technologies that can assist, each of those technologies have worked independently, until today,” said Nick Emanuel, CropMetrics CEO. “This integrated solution not only brings all the important information into one platform, but it makes each of those pieces work together to update models and irrigation schedules real time. We are excited with our new partnership with DTN/The Progressive farm as it provides our growers the most accurate, field level weather data utilizing the Ag Weather network weather stations.”
