Precision Technology A Bright Spot In Dark Times

I just returned on Thursday from a meeting of the PACE Advisory Council. This group of 24 industry experts from every segment of agriculture gathers every year in October to review the year that was, and look ahead at trends that will impact the industry during the season ahead. Until a couple of weeks ago the agenda was pretty clear, but a crashed out stock market and credit crisis cast a pall over the discussion. Virtually every discussion was laced with concerns about growers’ and retailers’ accessibility to credit. The situation led me to ask whether precision technology as a way to generate field data to enhance decision making, and as a way to improve efficiency in field operations, might put an operation in a more positive lending light for a banker. Just over 40% of you agreed that precision technology could deliver this sort of benefit. If you feel it will bring some benefit to you with your source of credit, I’d like to hear from you. What’s an effective way to present this information to a banker? Share your ideas in the reply box below. Thanks and all the best!
