Iowa DOT Set To “Turn On” Statewide CORS On Feb. 2

Iowa’s CORS network is truly statewide, comprised of 80 base stations to provide coverage to virtually anyone who has use for the correction signal, including agriculture. The capability was demonstrated at last summer’s Farm Progress show, as the system was undergoing installation and testing.

Iowa DOT owns the network, which was constructed by manufacturer Leica Geosystems under contract. Leica holds a maintenance contract for the network for two years. Agriculture is only of the myriad industries slated to use the network — the transportation, construction, and surveying industries will also be primary users of the technology.

Chris Shapcott of A & D Technical Supply, a Leica Geosystems dealer based in Omaha, NE, explained that users will need to register on line to receive the signal. The web site to sign up for the signal is www.iowadot.gov/rtn. He also warned that a high volume of interest next week could delay processing of connection requests, possibly by one or two days.
