SeedStar XP Simplifies, Improves Planting

Deere SeedStar XP

John Deere’s new SeedStar XP planting operations monitoring system is designed to simplify the planting process for growers and provide valuable data to help improve decision making and planting execution.

John Deere’s goal was to make planting operations more precise and easier to monitor with its new SeedStar XP monitoring system. SeedStar XP provides more real-time information about planter performance and seed placement to the operator in the tractor cab, making it easier for the operator to make on-the-go adjustments to the planter for optimal seed placement and increased productivity.

The GreenStar 2-compatible SeedStar XP system features a user-friendly, full-color planting monitor. Or, it can be integrated with an existing GreenStar 2 display to reduce clutter in the cab. The system is supported by a series of row-unit sensor nodes and downforce sensors configured to the specific model of planter. In addition to the features of the original SeedStar 2 monitoring system, the SeedStar XP system includes these enhancements:

• Seed singulation and seed spacing monitoring
• Row-unit downforce monitoring and adjustment
• Row-unit ride quality monitoring
• Overall row-unit and planter performance monitoring
• Split-screen applications for planting and guidance (AutoTrac)

“Everything that customers said they wanted in a fully integrated monitoring system for planting operations went into the SeedStar XP system,” says Chris Savener, project manager, planters, for John Deere Seeding Savener says. “This includes an easy-to-read, at-a-glance screen with seed skip information and data on row-unit ride dynamics, which are critical to monitoring and maintaining overall planter performance at the row-unit level. Ultimately, the SeedStar XP monitoring system helps ensure that every seed is planted to the correct depth and spacing within the seed furrow across the entire field. Tests show that the system helps producers save planting time and seed while maximizing yields.”

The SeedStar XP system is available on select model year 2011 John Deere planters, including the 1770NT, 1770NT CCS, 1790 and DB Series planters, and is fully integrated and compatible with other Ag Management System products used for planting, such as Swath Control Pro for planters, GreenStar AutoTrac assisted steering and Apex farm management software.

  1. I have seedstar now on a 1720 8 row stack planter. I and many of my neighbors would like to see “row command” made available for 8 row planters. We are currently using Tru-Count since Deere does not offer on machines below 12 rows. It is only a wiring harness and a little programming which should be nothing for Deere. Please pass this on the Deere. Jon Bergstrom

  2. please advise Deere it would be nice to have “row command” made available for planters under 12 row. Our area uses 8 row planters on 40″ rows for cotton. Deere does not make row command available for 8 row planters. It would only require a wiring harness and a little programming for the seedstar software. Please make Deere aware. We currently have to use “tru-count” clutches.

  3. I own a 2001 1770 24/30 planter with ME units (1.6 bu.and insecticide boxes). Last fall I spotted an add from John Deere offering Row Command cluthes for chain drive style planters. The only way the install worked, this planter has 4 down pressure springs on the parallel arms. Heavy duty “T handle” downs or air bags get in the way. The kit has a wiring harness for the NT bar. 2 wiring harnesses had to be manufactured for rows 10 and 15(NT has 4 main frame units, this has 6). I shimmed the bearing/drive sprocket over after grinding the “W” bracket a little. We removed 2 of the “brain boxes” and installed another. With programing help from Plains Power & Equip.,Inc., I am enjoying Row Command with Swath Control Pro on an older planter.
