AgGateway Grain Traceability Proof-of-Concept Seeks Industry Participation

AgGateway’s Precision Agriculture and Grain & Feed councils have issued a call for participation for a proof-of-concept initiative in AgGateway’s ongoing grain traceability project; the deadline is January 23 to express interest in participating. The Commodity Automation by Rail and Truck (CART) Project’s 2018 proof-of-concept will build on recent efforts related to commodity transfer from source container to target containers, duration of the transfer, and method of the transfer.

Anticipated benefits of the proof-of-concept include efficiency improvements in the grain receiving process; elimination of less efficient paper-based systems; ability to meet traceability goals of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) through improvements of grain receiving and load-out processes (through identification of shipping containers used during transport, such as rail car or semi-trailer); ability to review weights and grade of a specific shipment prior to arrival; and automatic identification of grain transport containers upon the arrival of the shipment.

Participating companies must be AgGateway members, and are being asked to provide subject matter experts and developers only; no funding will be required from participants.

Overall, the CART Project seeks to expand and implement standardized messages from the widely adopted AgXML standards for rail, barge and truck grain transport. These standards serve as the basis for electronic transaction for bills of lading, commodity movement, contracts, contract pricing, quality certificates, weight certificates, rail rates electronic exchange, biofuels support and settlements.
