2010 Precision Product Review: SST

According to Mark Waits, marketing manager for SST Development Group, Inc., the company sees challenges and opportunities ahead in 2010. First is seamless data transfer.

“There is still a need for devices to talk to one another with little or no file management by the user,” says Waits. “SST Software and Raven Industries have partnered to make this a reality. This year, a user of SST Summit will be able to send seed and fertility recommendations directly to the cab and receive the as-applied files with one push of a button. At the heart of this process is the AgX Platform, a standardized system of data collection protocols that allow collaborative record keeping and data synchronization.”

The second trend Waits sees is advanced yield analysis. “While yield monitoring has been around for a long time, there’s a new focus on creating advanced yield information products such as Yield by Hybrid across a farm or using multiple years of yield data to create seed recommendations,” he says. “There are many precision agriculture practioners that have enough yield, planting, and pesticide application histories to create these products and they are leading the way for the rest of the industry.”
