AgSense Gains Patent Remote Irrigation Technology

AgSense, manufacturer of remote management solutions for agricultural irrigation, has received a patent on its remote irrigation management system.

“We are very excited to receive this patent for our unique technology,” said Terry Schiltz, President of AgSense. “Our technology enables growers to implement remote precision irrigation practices without significant upgrades to their existing equipment.”

This newly patented technology is part of the AgSense Field Commander irrigation system, which gives growers wireless remote monitoring, and control of all brands of irrigation pivots.

Georgia grower, Mark Burkett commented, “We have pivots manufactured anywhere from 1971 to 2010, and we are able to standardize the AgSense technology on all of them. I can’t begin to estimate the amount of time and expense we’ve saved by having AgSense products monitoring our pivots.”

The patent applies to the simplification and utilization of GPS technology to continuously track location in order to run multiple speed and end gun programs, as well as start and stop the pivot.

“The most significant benefit to our customers is the ability to easily implement their irrigation decisions based on whatever agronomic program they are using to make those determinations,” added Schiltz. “What used to take hours to implement can now be managed remotely in minutes from any location the customer has web access.”

The Field Commander remote management system communicates via digital cell network, and works in conjunction with AgSense’s WAGNET (Wireless Agricultural Network) software that provides real time management tools and historical data. The company is currently developing apps for mobile web devices, as well as other remote management technologies that are scheduled to be introduced in 2012.
