Spectrum Adds NDVI Meter

Plant stress in early growing stages can be difficult to detect to the naked eye, but plants will provide clues in the form of chlorophyll content which affects light absorption and reflectance by the plant.

The New Field Scout CM 1000 NDVI Meter measures reflected light in the red and near infrared spectral bands. When plants are under stress, reflection of red light increases due to reduced chlorophyll absorption, and cell breakdown leads to reduced infrared reflectance. NDVI, or Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, is a unit of measure that factors in both red and near infrared reflectance levels.
