Deere Details New Connect Mobile App, C850 Air Cart

To help growers monitor, adjust and learn from the performance of their planter or sprayer while it moves through the field, the company has introduced the new John Deere Connect Mobile App.

Over time, Connect Mobile will include other operations, such as harvesting, the ability to add more data and to help growers make better-informed decisions with greater confidence. “By using Connect Mobile, operators will know they’re doing the best possible job with the investment they’ve made in their John Deere equipment,” says John Mishler, production and precision ag marketing manager for John Deere.

Growers can monitor job quality in real time and better understand what’s going on with their sprayer or planter in nozzle-by-nozzle and row-by-row detail. “It’s managing the job at a micro level to make macro improvements,” Mishler says.

By visualizing job performance, operators can quickly and more easily identify potential problems. Multiple map layers across production steps provide additional insights for growers to consider that can improve their productivity and reduce operating costs.

Operators can seamlessly move the app from one John Deere machine to the next, and from one production step to another with confidence and familiarity thanks to Connect Mobile’s common user interface. “The result is a better understanding of the job being performed. Data is saved on the iPad so it goes where you go.

At any time, or in any location as the data is saved, you can quickly review past work,” Mishler adds.

Using the app, operators can easily compare data layers from previous production steps with what’s seen when scouting fields. “This information can help growers better understand what might have caused what they’re seeing in the field,” Mishler explains.

Connect Mobile provides more options for operators to view data in the cab, including the John Deere Gen 4 CommandCenter that shows performance data averaged across the field, the boom, or the planter section.

“Connect Mobile takes this one step further and maps specific details at specific points – row-by-row or nozzle-by-nozzle,” Mishler adds. “Operators can use their iPad with Connect Mobile to monitor planter performance while using the Gen 4 CommandCenter for AutoTracTM, Section Control, and other precision-ag applications. Regardless the operation being performed, the application has the same look and feel.”

In John Deere 4 Series Sprayers, operators can view mapping of critical job quality information that includes as-applied rates, rate deviation, spray pressure, and ground speed. In addition, Connect Mobile delivers high-definition documentation for ExactApplyTM Nozzle Control, and provides real-time visibility to estimated droplet size information. “This ensures on-target application, mitigating the risk of product drift and avoiding the need for re-application. You can more quickly see and react to any problems and optimize job performance,” Mishler says.

Factory-installed hardware creates green-on-green simplicity and a consistent cross-platform experience with a familiar, easy-to-use interface. John Deere Connect Mobile is available as a free download from the Apple App Store. Subscriptions in 2017 are free. For customers who previously used SeedStar Mobile, the data stored on their iPad will migrate to Connect Mobile after the new app is installed.

New 850-bushel capacity C850 Air Cart

For small-grain producers wanting to drill more acres per day, John Deere introduces its largest air cart ever – the new C850. The cart’s 850-bushel carrying capacity is 55 percent greater than previous models and provides an ideal match between cart capacity and in-field performance when appropriately paired with John Deere’s 9R Family of Tractors and Air-Drill offering. The addition of the C850 to the air-seeding family offers outstanding performance, enhanced uptime, and reduced cost of operation.

“Producers will see industry-leading total product delivery from AirPowerTM 2; standard equipment on the C850,” says Ryan Hough, John Deere product marketing manager for seeding. “Integrated tank scales are included and a five-pivot hydraulic wireless conveyance is capable of delivering 100 bushels per minute to fill all tanks from a single positioning of the cart and semi. Every additional bushel of capacity to each tank was considered to ensure the splits were right, allowing more time for seeding.”

Hough says this allows producers, using common input rates, to seed 170 acres, yet avoid the additional soil compaction and decreased flotation that comes with less than optimal tank splits on larger cart offerings.

“The John Deere solution delivers greater uptime and requires less horsepower. The C850 is able to seed a comparable number of acres to carts nearly 100 bushels larger without carrying the added weight of unused product that can result in increased soil compaction and decreased flotation,” Hough explains.

The C850 is compatible with the 76-foot John Deere 1870 Air Hoe Drill; and 50- and 60-foot 1890 No-till Air Drills. A 50-bushel mini hopper, and dual rear and single front tires are included. The new air cart can also be equipped with additional features that include AirPower 2; ActiveCalTM, Acres Remaining, Section CommandTM and Hydraulic Wireless Conveyance. “These options help producers finish more work in less time,” Hough says.

Calibration on the C850 is faster than ever and can be done from a robust display mounted to the cart. For those who want to calibrate from the comfort of the tractor cab, ActiveCal allows in-field calibration while seeding. Air-tank pressure can also be monitored from inside the tractor cab.

“The heavy-duty frame is built for years of use, and stainless steel primaries were used to reduce corrosion and wear,” Hough adds.

The single-lid per tank design of the C850 provide a generous opening for easy access and filling. Lids are flush across the top and when opened, slide along the contour of the tank to remain out of the way while filling. Hough says this prevents the cart’s lids from blowing closed in the wind or from blocking conveyor access to the tank opening. “These are small details, but are important when making the most of refill time,” Hough says.

Equipped with an integrated camera wiring harness, standard C850 models come from the factory camera ready. Factory-installed mounts and connections are located at the rear of the cart and inside each tank for seamless installation. “The camera harness is compatible with CabCAM and Voyager cameras,” Hough says.

Top platform railings on the C850 can be quickly folded down to a height of 13.5 feet with the pull of a pin. The lower platform railings can also be unpinned and removed when transferring seed from the back of a truck or when loading from a pallet and loader.

Optional SectionCommand can be ordered with the C850 to reduce seed and fertilizer inputs while improving even emergence and crop development.
