2011 Precision Product Review: GVM

According to Jeff Dearborn, managing director of GVM AgJunction, a key technology trend this year will be growth in automated data delivery and logistics systems. These systems representing the convergence of precision agriculture, operational efficiencies and logistics will become increasingly important and allow retailers to become more profitable. Previously, field data collection, analysis, and dissemination was a disjointed and complicated exercise, and were completely separate from operational logistics. GVM AgJunction bridges the divide, putting them together in a single entity. The simple, easy-to-use system saves retailers both time and money, says Dearborn. And GVM’s Probe2Prowler soil sampling system is one way this single system approach works.

According to Dearborn, Probe2Prowler allows the user to go from soil sampling to spreading from variable-rate maps in 72 hours or less. This does require the retailer to use a quality soils lab. The entire sampling to spreading process is managed wirelessly through GVM AgJunction. “The GVM AgriProbe was designed to aid in this process,” he says. “The AgriProbe is a professional soil sampling machine that allows users to sample anywhere from 40-100 acres per hour. Sample activity is organized centrally and dispatched to the appropriate mobile units. Files are wirelessly transmitted to the field units and submitted back immediately when completed. The application process is similarly handled.”
