Western NY College Sees Bright Future In Precision Ag

Genesee Community College and their Precision Agriculture Advisory Committee hosted 70 students and 45 industry members April 4 with the goal of establishing precision agriculture programs at the college, reports Alicia Keller on LancasterFarming.com.

This was the first Precision Agriculture Day for the college.

Students had an excuse to step out of the traditional classroom to learn that working in the agriculture industry extends far beyond the actual farm.

Reid Smalley, executive director of Workforce Development in the BEST Center (Business and Employee Skills Training) at the college, welcomed the group and posed the question: “How do we get our young people involved in ag careers?”

The forum delved into Smalley’s question through a special session on “Using Aerial Drones to Enhance Field Production,” as well as various other breakouts to answer questions for producers, practitioners and students.
