David Clay Wins 2009 Educator/Researcher Award For Precision Ag Excellence

Dr. David Clay of South Dakota State University has been named the 2009 Educator/Researcher Award winner for Precision Ag Excellence. The awards program is sponsored by the PrecisionAg Institute.

The Educator/Reearcher award recognizes an individual whose research and/or education program has advanced the principles and/or expanded the practice of precision agriculture.

Clay was one four enthusiastic precision agriculture luminaries who were honored in front of hundreds of attendees at the InfoAg Conference in July for their superior work in the field of ag technology.

“Worldwide, the implementation of non-sustainable agricultural systems can lead to increased wind and water erosion, and the loss of productive land,” Clay said. “This problem is confounded by new pests, and fertilizer, land, and water resources that are becoming more scarce and expensive. Increasing crop production in a resource constrained environment will require facilitating teams of scientists and producers in the discovery and delivery of multi-layered technology-based solutions. Knowledge gained through such research can be implemented through the adoption of precision farming techniques.”

Clay was part of the third class of recipients of the awards program, which for the first time recognized specific categories related to a primary area of work. Other winners included David Waits (Legacy Award), Quentin Rund (Crop Adviser/Entrepreneur Award) and Robert Blair (Farmer Award).
