Precision Agriculture Education In Idaho

Last week, I got a call from Robert Blair, a grower in Kendrick, Idaho, who’s found tremendous benefit, and payback, from his use of precision agriculture. He’s also an innovator who’s been working on the development of Unmanned Air Systems, or UAS for agriculture. But these stories are fodder for another day. Robert actually called me to share another project he’s working on — the development of a precision agriculture course at the University of Idaho.

The course syllabus covers a broad range of topics: GPS guidance and hardware, GIS, yield mapping, soil sampling, remote sensing, and economic analysis. After talking with him, it sounds like he’s made a lot of progress, and has a lot of ambitions for expansion of the precision education experience at the University. I shared some contacts and information with him, but there’s a lot more knowledge out there among you all that I can’t begin to scratch the surface on.

We’re all in this business together, and most of us have been around long enough to know that sometimes just a few key contacts can make an immeasurable difference.

Thanks in advance for sharing, and let’s celebrate and support another educational effort in precision agriculture.
