Open For Business

It’s been an interesting four months since we began talking to agriculture manufacturers, universities, associations, agronomists, and growers about our new new initiative, the PrecisionAg Institute. We decided to launch the program because we were getting so much encouragement from the market to move forward. People we talked to thought that the Institute would be performing a great service to centralize all the best thinking, the most interesting research, the best practices, the greatest success stories — in other words, create a center for precision agriculture information and excellence.

Today, I’m pleased to report that we have 13 Founding Partners who have committed their corporate and financial support to the Institute, based on our vision for making precisison agriculture easier to understand and adopt through information, education, and sharing. It’s really an exciting time!

Think about what agriculture is up against. The growing global population. Increased calls for food and product traceability. The need to increase efficiency to remain competitive. Regulations and market forces that require a sustainable future for bioenergy. With all these trends, at least part of of the solution is the effective use of technology.

During the PrecisionAg Institute’s first year, we at the CropLife® Media Group will be working to lay a foundation of information upon which we will build and grow, for the benefit of practitioners and newcomers to precision agriculture alike. This fall and winter, we will be conducting groundbreaking research that will baseline where corn/soybean and wheat growers are on the adoption scale. You’ll see some of that research released next spring. We are also creating an Online Reference Library at www.precisionag.com, containing a wide range of precision agriculture information. We’re also working on a scholarship program to encourage students to consider a career in high-technology agriculture, as well as a Hall of Fame to honor excellence in the development and use of precision agriculture.
