Investing In What Matters

Representing the PrecisionAg Institute, I offered a 30,000-foot view of precision tools that was part primer, part advanced. As the name suggests, GAIN is about providing a forum for investors, inventors and innovators to connect on future possibilities. Some manage investment funds or counsel venture capitalists. Some are all about bioscience, some are all about robotics, all are about innovation. Many attend because they need the inspiration the random bolts of creativity that come from being together with others who are bringing new ideas to reality. You’ve got to circulate to percolate, as one of my professors used to say.

In the midst of the disappointing doldrums of our current economic and political news that could cloud an encouraging ag outlook, it blew a new fresh wind into my sails. Innovation continues. In the business world, Steve Jobs is now somewhat synonymous with innovation.  His death brought a spotlight to the gift for it that he had and his attitude toward business and life is being devoured by many who are reading the his recent biography.

“Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me,” he once said in an interview. “Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful, that’s what matters to me.”
