2009 Precision Crop Adviser/Entrepreneur of the Year

It takes truly dedicated people working behind the scenes to make things happen, and Quentin Rund is just that kind of person. Rund has developed a unique blend of skills — teaching, technology expertise, and a deep understanding of agriculture — into a business that has helped to educate thousands about the possibilities of precision agriculture.

Rund has worked hard to adapt GIS tools to agricultural applications so that organizations could implement those tools. He’s developed first-class training to teach potential users, or for use to use in a self-study mode. He has built a first-class business, PAQ Interactive, as a service provider in the development and hosting of website for agribusinesses, ag education organizations at the state and national levels for high schools and community colleges, and agribusiness associations of various kinds. Rund has also contracted to manage several national and international conferences, in addition to the InfoAg Conference series

Over the past 15 years, Quentin has been a solid partner with the International Plant Nutrition Institute in developing the InfoAg Conference programs, a series of exhibits at Farm Progress Shows and other events which incorporate GIS, remote sensing, and information management technologies into IPNI research programs. His background in working in several aspects of agriculture has provided a fresh perspective on the real needs,” says IPNI’s Harold Reetz.

Rund has a background in farming, worked in Natural Resources Conservation Service, had advanced training in education, and has a passion for efficient use of our natural and human resources. “That experience and sentiment guide his decisions on projects that he accepts and the way those projects are developed,” says Reetz. “He shares the idea with many of us working with precision technology that these tools are a key factor in our hope to improve productivity and maintain our important resource bases as we work to provide the food, feed, fiber, and fuel that the world is expecting from agriculture. Helping guide the implementation of these technologies in the US and around the world is one of the ways he is providing stewardship of those resources.”
