Topcon Adds Boom Leveling Capability to X20

PrecisionAg eNews - Topcon Precision Agriculture’s X20 Ultra Sonic Boom Leveler incorporates a unique dual-sonic/gyro system to keep a sprayer boom at the correct height in the most demanding and difficult spraying situations.

The X20 Boom Leveler uses four ultrasonic sensors to maintain a user-set distance between the operating spray boom and the ground or crop canopy. This allows an operator to extend spraying into the night or early morning without having to worry about boom damage in low light conditions or uneven terrain. The leveler also monitors the roll of the sprayer; the unit’s electronics and software then anticipates the lift and lower of the boom wings automatically, ensuring that the boom nozzles are at the correct height for optimal application and plant coverage.

The center height control automatically keeps the entire boom at the correct height throughout the entire spray job by adjusting the boom height as the spray tank empties.

Rhett Schildroth, Topcon’s precision ag product marketing manager, said, “Manual control of a sprayer in uneven terrain meant continual adjustments and reduced speed, adding to both the cost, time and quality of the application. With the X20 Boom Leveler the operator can get the job done quickly by increasing spraying speed with increased accuracy."

He adds that safety and reliability features have been incorporated into the design of the X20 Boom Leveler, including:

-- Automatic low-speed cutout;
-- Automatic cutout if boom is raised above maximum working height;
-- Transport mode isolation of hydraulic drive circuits;
-- Comprehensive visual and audible alarms;
-- Operator lockout to prevent unauthorized configuration changes; and
-- Stainless steel mesh and gauze filters to keep dust out of sensors.

Installation kits for the X20 Boom Leveler are available for a number of self-propelled and trailed (pull-type) sprayers fitted with electrically controlled hydraulic lift. For more information visit www.topcon.com
